Properties For Sale

October 3, 2007

As we get older it seems that it is more and more difficult to maintain a healthy positive attitude. As I was growing up I swore that I would never be as judgmental and conservative as my parents. Yet as I have entered into middle age I find that I am more easily irritated by those that are different than me and more conservative in my political convictions. I find myself telling my children stories about how hard I had to work to where I am and that they cannot expect to have things handed to them, they need to earn them.

Decorated Christmas Trees

October 3, 2007

Have you ever had a vision of what a career is going to be like? Have you thought about how people are going to respond to you when you answer their calls for help? I did and I have been very disappointed in the reality versus my vision. I am a social worker. I went into the field because I wanted to help people improve the way they live. I wanted to support the providers that offer services to those in need and I wanted to help people give their children a vision of a different lifestyle for themselves and their children. Through the years I believe I have done this with some clients and providers; however I did not realize when I started in the field that there are some people that prefer to live their lives the way they are rather than take the risks of changing.

Career Placement Test

October 3, 2007

There are many programs that are available through the federal government that are not widely advertised. Many of these programs include funding for education as well as low interest loans for starting a small business. Many times the only way that people hear about these programs is through word of mouth. Of all the websites that are available to people one of the places to check for funding and resources are those that are set up by the government.

Sailing Holiday

October 2, 2007

When my girlfriend proposed that we take a sailing vacation together, I was not thrilled about the idea. We are as different as night and day in many respects. We do not have the same ideas about romantic places at all. For her, the best place to get away from it all is in the middle of the wilderness. My idea of a romantic place, however, is Manhattan. We balance each other out pretty well, but it makes things difficult when we have to decide on vacations. Usually, we take turns, but this time I wasn’t sure if I could abide by her decision. You see, sailing holidays scared the pants off me.

Although everyone in the pictures from her sailing holiday pamphlet appeared to be having a good time, all I could think about was that they were just awaiting their inevitable death beneath the waves. I knew that the Greek sailing holidays company that she was considering had a pretty good safety record (I researched them at length) but even still, I could not get over my fear of not having land beneath my feet. I had never been on a sail boat trip before – even a small one. What would happen if I found out that being aboard a ship made me sea sick? Were the people who spent their entire sailing holidays throwing up over the edge of the ship? Would I be the first?

In the end, however, I had to give in. After all, I was planning a trip to London the next year. I knew that if I vetoed her decision, she would veto mine. Before we knew it, we would give up vacations entirely. I didn’t want things to get to that point. Getting on the boat, I was practically shaking. She had to hold my hand! Within a couple hours of starting the trip, however, something strange happened: I calmed down.

I actually had a great time aboard the sailboat. There were many interesting people there to talk to, and there’s something very soothing about the endless rocking of the waves. We didn’t have any bad weather the whole time. If anything, it was a bit too mild. That made for days of gentle sailing and nights of calm, restful sleep. All in all, I couldn’t have asked more of my sailing holidays. If she enjoys London half as much, we’ll have a lovely trip next summer.

Jelly Belly

October 2, 2007

When I was growing up, jelly belly jelly beans were practically a religion in my family. We could not agree on what food to eat, what movies to watch, or even what park to go to on our Sunday outings. The one thing we did agree on, however, was the jelly bellies. Everyone in the family loved them, and each person has their own favorite flavors. I could eat all the pineapple flavored jelly beans that I wanted because my sister was after the limes, my mother was after the coconuts, and my father was after the licorice. My parents would actually buy jelly belly wholesale – we went through that many of them! All of the kids had cavities, as did our parents, but none of us care. We were too busy enjoying our delicious candies!

That is why our trip to the jelly belly factory was such a memorable moment. It didn’t actually happen until I was much older – older than the prime age for that sort of thing. When I went to the Spam Museum, for example, I was 10 years old, and in just the right mental condition to enjoy such a spectacle. Kids love all of that hokey, overblown tourist junk, you see. Who else but a 10 year old could listen with avid interest to the entire history of spam, watch the Spam singers perform on stage, and see life-sized dioramas depicting the loading and transport of Spam? It was just too funny for words!

When we went on the jelly belly tour, however, I was 17 years old. I was pretty cynical, and although I still enjoyed junk food as most teens do, I also scorned family gatherings with typical adolescent dismissal. In retrospect, it was a shame that I went in there with such an attitude. I couldn’t admit to myself that I was as excited as my little sister to be in the jelly belly factory. It was magnificent – tons and tons of jelly beans everywhere, pouring from vats and rolling down assembly lines into packages of delicious candies. The best part of all, of course, was the free samples. We got to try jellybeans that hadn’t even been introduced to the market yet. It was before Harry Potter jelly belly candy, but we still got to try certain experimental flavors that never ended up being produced. All in all, it was a great day for me and my family.

Call Center Jobs

October 2, 2007

There is a lot of buzz about call center jobs going overseas. If we are to believe the hype, within a few years all the call centre jobs will be far off in Asia. It is true that a lot of 24 hour call center jobs have moved over to India, but that does not mean that there are not a lot of good ones left. If you have a college liberal arts degree, in fact, and are having trouble really finding the right occupation, a call center job might be just what you need.

I have a friend who has worked her way up to a call center manager job. When she first applied for it, a lot of her friends went out of their way to discourage her. Some of them had nightmare stories about working at phone banks, while other ones were almost certain that there was no future in working at a call center. How wrong they all were! Although she was not crazy about working a call center sales job at first, she held on and kept working. There was a lot of turnover, but she hung on. Within a year, she had been promoted three time, and had made more money than in any other occupation she had worked in.

Of course, there are many different kinds of call center jobs, and some of them are better for certain people than others. Working for a help center, for example, is a pretty straight-forward occupation. Usually you have to have a certain amount of specialized knowledge, but often they will train you in what you need to know. It is pretty low pressure, because you do not have to sell anything to anyone. All that you really have to do is to help solve technical problems.

Other call center jobs, by contrast, are very high pressure. If you work in a call marketing firm, you will have to make a certain amount in sales or else you will not hit your quota. If you are not good at sales, this can be pretty stressful. If you are good at making cold calls, however, these call center jobs can be a gold mine. They offer less security than a help center, but a lot more opportunity. It is a trade off, and it usually becomes clear pretty quickly whether or not you can handle the pressure.

Advertising on The Internet

October 2, 2007

Most know that in order to get people to find you, you have to have good advertising. Retail outlets put money into sales flyers, radio ads, television commercials, and even billboards. Some even have items they give away with their logo or company name on them. Those things don’t work as well when you are trying to bring in customers online, and most can’t afford to advertise on television when they want to get people to their web site. Instead, they have to rely on advertising on the Internet.

Luckily, this is something that most can do, and can be rather affordable. When a new commercial site starts up, they should pay for advertising on the Internet just as a new retail outlet would do within their own community. As with anything, finding the right place to advertise is the way to be sure your campaign is successful. If you are going to sell home items, advertising where mostly teens hang out is not going to do you much good. You have to place your advertising where the right audience will see it. Perhaps advertising on a site that has real estate listings might be a better choice.

Some like to use banner ads when advertising on the Internet, but not all. Some leave their advertising to programs like Google Adsense or the program that Yahoo has. This puts your ad up on a webpage that has related written content. That means the people who would be most likely to have a need for your product or service are the ones that are going to see the advertisements. What you will pay for this type of advertising on the Internet may just depend on how many people actually view your ad, or how many may click on it and make a purchase.

Whether advertising on the Internet works for you will depend on the mood of the buyers. Most will agree though, it works rather well as long as the right audience sees those ads. Be careful that you don’t come up with advertising on the Internet tactics that turn people off. Most hate popup ads, and if they see one with your name on it, they probably aren’t going to show up at your site. The same can be said for spam emails. Though some click on them, most don’t. Go with the least intrusive ways you can find to get your name out there.

Popular Organizing Tools for Self Improvement

September 29, 2007

Being disorganized seems to be a way of life for many of us. There are clothes we might wear but never do, boxes of memorabilia that just sit in storage, piles of papers, and other things we might need sometime. However, when we really think about it we never really have needed those things before, and the unremittingly disorganized will be saying now, but I have used those things! All right – maybe you have on some occasion used those things you keep laying around. Even so, you can keep some of those things but keep them in a better organizational manner.
